Visual Art Museum Galati is the first Romanian contemporary art museum in the country, opened in 1967 and designed to present the latest trends of plastic budding destination and it still preserves.
Existing work in rooms which constitute a selection from a much wider heritage, often filled with a virtual heritage of contemporary artists workshops grown consistently in the five decades of existence of the institution. The museum collections include creations of Romanian art from the second half of the nineteenth century and the twentieth century (Theodor Aman, Nicolae Grigorescu , Octav Bancila , Pallady , Gheorghe Petrascu , Stefan Dimitrescu , Nicolae Tonitza , Camil Ressu , Lucian Grigorescu Nicolae Mantu and many others) Romanian avant-garde representatives ( Brauner ,MH Maxy , János Mattis-Teutsch, Marcel Iancu , Irina Codreanu , Milita Petrascu , etc ..) and works by artists that forms a bridge between the first and second half of the twentieth century ( Corneliu Baba , Alexandru Ciucurencu , Ion Ţuculescu , Henry H. masts , Dumitru Ghiata , Rudolf Schweitzer- Cumpăna , etc ...).
But the most significant part of the heritage and the museum is the permanent exposure works made between 1967-2012. Renowned personalities of painting and sculpture of contemporary Romanian represented by the creation of value recognized nationally and internationally are present cymas museum Horia Bernea Ion Salisteanu Ion Alin Gheorghiu, Marin Gherasim, Teodor Moraru, Octav Grigorescu, Georgeta Naparus, Paula Ribariu Stefan tow, Gheorghe Anghel , Ion Irimescu Vida Geza, George Apostu, Ovidiu Maitec Napoleon Tiron, etc ...
Collections of painting and sculpture collection are complemented by graphics (Wanda Mihuleac Marcel Chirnoaga, Mircea Dumitrescu, Dan Erceanu George Leolea, etc ..) and decorative art (Ana Lupas, Serbana Dragoescu Mimi Podeanu, Cela Neamtu, Riti and Peter James, Serban Gabrea, Costel Badea Radu Tanasescu etc ..) made by Romanian creators.
Among the many donations made by artists and the museum is distinguished by their magnitude three of them: donation "Idel Ianchelevici" (Belgian sculptor of Romanian origin) donation "Georgeta Constantin Aramescu" (American artists born in Galati) and donation "Roth Smith ", including work Schmierer Lola Roth, painter who helped setting up cultural tradition of Galati. They enrich the heritage museum with a total of more than 400 paintings, graphics and sculpture.
The museum has a dynamic structure by organizing exhibitions, micro-exhibitions, various public events (concerts, debates, lectures on topics of art, art history lessons, film, etc ..), symposiums, creative camps and other programs that promote the most meaningful guidance of Romanian contemporary art in the country and abroad.
